New Legislation for Agency Workers

10/03/2011

The most significant change to legislation affecting the UK's temporary workers came into force on 1st October 2011. The changes affect not only the workers themselves but also agencies that supply them and the places where they are fulfilling assignments.

The AWR or Agency Workers Directive aims to give agency workers similar rights to those in permanent employment and could affect not only agencies but those who use agencies to supply temporary workers to them - unless they are prepared. The worry was that many agency workers could have found themselves without employment due to placements being ended. However, Network haven't found this to be the case.

With correct preparation  and advice form Network Recruitment all of our clients have been able to keep their assignments filled and with very little difficultly or nuisance to themselves. Our temporary workers have been kept informed and advised of their options along the way to keep any disruption to a minimum.

This is good news to the increasing number of employers who look to temporary workers as a solution to their staffing requirements. Indeed, according to The Recruitment & Employment confederation (REC) who recently delivered the results of a report into the outlook for future jobs, 83% of employers plan to maintain or increase their temporary staff numbers in the next quarter and 86% plan to over the coming year.

With this in mind it's important for recruiters, workers and those who use temporary staff to become familiar with AWR regulations - by implementing necessary changes now you'll save yourself disruption in the future.
