Client Overview
Balfour Beatty Services (formerly Haden Young) is an acknowledged leader in building services, delivering integrated mechanical and electrical services for commercial, industrial and public sector buildings across the UK. Haden Young merged to become Balfour Beatty Engineering Services. The company is now one of the UK’s largest providers of specialist mechanical and electrical services.
Route
Network Recruitment Partnership were approached by Mr. Bob Francis, Head of Regional Supply Chain & Manager of Modular Systems, following a recommendation from the Commercial Director of a Sister company.
Background
No official relationship was in place and although there were some preferred companies, there was a general open policy in recruitment.
Brief
The company needed to implement a new internal supply chain function, following the acquisition of another manufacturing base. Network Recruitment Consultant, Noel, made what would become his first of several site visits to the company’s locations to discuss their requirements in more detail. It was clear that due to the nature of the development that an organic brief would be most suitable. Detailed information about the recruitment requirements was immediately available for some of the more senior roles while the temporary and junior level workforce remained at the beginning of the project, undecided. Network generated a service overview of all variants of support they were able to provide for them during their recruitment programme. This allowed Haden Young to process their requirements with more ease and resulted in a completely flexible approach to their staffing, with Network’s support they were able to switch on and off their recruitment supply as demand required. This also led to them requesting support on some key permanent roles within the Supply Chain and Quality side of the start up team, and also provide supply of temporary manufacturing, technical and administrative staff.
Timeframe
Quick turnaround was a priority, so following initial discussions a recruitment campaign, including online media advertising, and targeted searches was launched within a month. The rest of the programme was implemented on an ad-hoc basis as requested by Haden Young and in total was spread out across 12 months.
Budget
Forecasts were givenin advance and Network devised a managed service for them detailing a series of fixed rates given for positions. This included fixed overtime rate, so they would remain in full control of their temporary labour spend. Once agreed, the plan was rolled out internally and consultants met the requirements. If for example, the volumes were high Network would release to a tier of third party suppliers at agreed rates retaining budgetary control for the client whilst accessing extra staffing support. SLA’s were arranged using our own internal customer service levels, which the third party suppliers had to adhere to ensuring continuing high service standards and continuity in customer relationships. To further assist in the budget forecast for the entire programme we agreed a fixed percentage for any permanent recruitment and the start of the project. All of these factors allowed the company to forecast their costing on this area of investment and enabled them to recruit where and when necessary and all of this achieved within their operating budget.
"We have received a very high standard of candidates for a number of roles and the advice given to us during the recruitment process has been excellent."
