Senior Component Engineer – Electronics
Salary: c£33000
Location: Mid Wales
The role
The sustaining engineering team are responsible for product quality improvement, the primary role will be to investigate the root cause of product reliability and implement the necessary corrective action (e.g. design change, recommended manufacturing process changes and product documentation corrections). The department is split into smaller teams consisting of an Engineer, technician and graduate engineers. Each team is responsible for undertaking the following broad areas of work:
Chair the product quality improvement pipeline to establish the correct order of projects.
Work closely with the original designers, vendors, product support and manufacturing to establish the route cause of poor product reliability.
Establish the suitability of alternative components for use within production products.
Carry out design changes as required, to improve product reliability and enable the use of alternative components.
Review manufacturing process, with the support of the manufacturing engineering team to establish methods to improve product yield and product quality in the field.
Carry out the necessary conformance and type test program to ensure product integrity following any design changes.
Lead design reviews (for proposed product changes) with the support of other senior engineering staff in E&D.
Work with other members of the global sustaining engineering and broader E&D teams around the world.
The person
HND or preferably degree level educated in an engineering or technical discipline
Demonstrable experience of motor drive products and applications
Knowledge of electronic circuit and component design and the associated manufacturing processes. (e.g. SMPS , Gate drivers, IGBT’s, diodes, mosfets etc. )
Hands on experience of design implementation (direction of PCB layout, product type test, and technical file maintenance and conformance approval).
Demonstrable experience of distilling complex technical specifications
Willingness to be a part of a leading edge design facility
Good communication skills, both oral and written
Team player, capable of seeing and articulating the big picture.
