Product Design Engineer (Power interface specialist)

Salary : Negotiable

Location: Mid Wales

The Role:

Working within the design team responsible for network grid-tied inverter systems for photovoltaic and other renewable energy applications, the role will be to take control of the process of ensuring that these products meet a range of technical standards for grid interfacing. This will include tracking and analysing standards, managing the testing and certification process using internal and external resources, and contributing to the development of new designs to meet the evolving standards. The role will also be responsible for maintaining a database of technical requirements and standards for power grid connection worldwide and analysing the technical standards and determine their impact for inverter product specifications. They will also be responsible for organising the testing programme to ensure the necessary certification and test reports are in place for target markets as well as contributing to the specification and development of new products in order to meet existing and predicted future requirements. They will also co-operate with sales and marketing staff to ensure a match between product features and customer requirements; progress new product design from concept and modelling through prototyping, testing and third-party approvals to serial production and make use of support from conformance and control systems specialists, internal and external consultants.

The Person:

MEng in electrical  electronic engineering, or equivalent, with a power or power electronics bias.

Demonstrable experience of more than one of the following:

Grid tied inverter technical standards, conformance and certification requirements, management of approval testing

Power converter design

Power electronics analysis & modelling, at system or component level, ideally with experience with Simulink

Power grid interaction of inverters or generators

Control systems design and modelling, preferably with a power electronics bias

Good communication skills and the ability to assimilate complex ideas

Commercial attitude to software development.
