The role
Power Electronic Conversion is central to all products and the Power Design Manager is responsible for all power circuit design strategy activities within the Engineering and Development team. Additionally developing the power circuit and component strategy for future products, maintaining awareness of technology trends and threats, developing design tools to ensure quality, consistency and re-use of designs. The key areas of activity are in the design of power electronics for high quantities of electrical variable speed drives, with a power range from 100W through to 1MW.
The role also provides direct design input, technical consultancy and leadership to the Power Design Group and associated project teams whilst remaining committed to ensuring continuous improvement in design quality. The role also participates in the Design Review process and working closely with our Procurement function on strategic supplier selection and assessment.
The person
Minimum academic qualification BEng, ideally MEng / MSC
Familiar with selection and evaluation of power switching devices including IGBT's, MOSFETs, thyristors etc, together with the associated power circuit components, gate drive, protection circuits, transformer and other (power) magnetic design.
Demonstrable design experience in Industrial Variable Speed Drives or related industries such as Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS), Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) or Traction.
Technically adept and commercially astute
Keen to keep abreast of the latest developments in technology
Willingness to be part of a leading edge design facility
Good communication skills, both oral and written
Team player, capable of seeing and articulating the big picture.
